~~~~ A theory, based on Landauer's principle.... ~~~~
on his birthday (2/4/2012)
Rolf William Landauer, born in 1927, was a German-born American physicist
known for his formulation of Landauer's principle concerning the energy used during a computer's operation.
As it turns out, whenever the machine is resetting for another computation,
bits are flushed from the computer's memory,
and in that electronic operation, a certain amount of energy is lost.
Thus, when information is erased, there is an inevitable "thermodynamic cost of forgetting".
The same is true (we here at the Driveway Cam International Testing Laboratories (Ann Elk, Director) are sure) for human brains.
And as the boomers age, their ever present bulge in the population statistics continues to plague us...
It is no coincidence that the global warming trend was first noticed as the first of the boomers hit the Golden Age of Ginkgo biloba.
All those misplaced keys, and glasses, and all of their walking into rooms and wondering why they are there, over and over again adds up ~
and with more and more of them adding to the pot every day it's no wonder the planet is heating up, and the ice caps are melting.
The "thermodynamic cost of forgetting" is skyrocketing!
(right along with the boomer's age)
And the planet is paying the price.
[However, based on our extensive studies and research,
we do predict a shift downward of planetary temperatures in the next 30 to 50 years.]
With thanks to Today in Science (for the information on Rolf Landauer, the theory is all Ann's, along with her cracked team of investigators).
