Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, January 26, 2009.
Cold, winter showers are expected to develop over areas of the Western and Eastern US on Monday.
In the West, a deepening trough located over the Great Basin will produce significant amounts of snowfall across Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado on Monday. This system will produce periods of moderate snow showers across Utah, southern Wyoming, and the plains of Colorado, and heavier snowfall across the Colorado mountain ranges. The central and southwestern mountain ranges will see between 7 and 16 inches of snow accumulation, while the eastern San Juan mountains will see 10 to 19 inches of accumulation. Strong northeast winds ranging from 15 to 30 mph will accompany heavy snowfall and will create periods of blowing snow with lowered visibility. The aforementioned areas will remain under Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories until Monday evening.
In the East, areas of the Southern Plains and the Lower Mississippi Valley will see dynamic weather activity as a warm front extending over the northern Gulf of Mexico pushes northward across the Gulf Coast. As the system progresses, low level moisture along the frontal system will combine with chilly temperatures to produce a mix of rain and freezing rain across eastern Texas and areas of the Lower Mississippi Valley. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to accompany shower activity.
